Man killed in Manor Park neighbourhood

A 53-year-old man is dead after a shooting in a home in Ottawa’s Manor Park neighbourhood.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Birch Avenue and Hemlock Road at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Friday, Ottawa police wrote in a statement Saturday morning.

They found the man with life-threatening injuries. He died at the scene shortly after.

No arrests have been made.

The shooting appears to have been targeted, police told CBC News. Police said there is no ongoing risk to public safety.

Early Saturday afternoon, police identified the victim as Kevin Willington of Ottawa.

Rideau-Rockcliffe Coun. Rawlson King said the first thing he thinks of when an incident like this happens is “concern for area residents, for the victims, their families and also the surrounding neighbours who might be negatively impacted by an incident.”

Neighbours CBC spoke to said they found the incident unsettling.

Joggers, parents pushing strollers and dog-walkers could all be seen walking in the area Saturday.

The police service’s homicide unit is investigating the death.

Police vehicles were still guarding the taped-off yard of a house just north of Birch and Hemlock late Saturday morning.
