Man shot, killed Tuesday evening in Orléans

A 26-year-old man was shot and killed in Orléans Tuesday evening, according to Ottawa police.

They said on social media and then in a news release that emergency crews were called to Trigoria Crescent near Brian Coburn Boulevard E. around 8:30 p.m.

A man was found with a gunshot wound and died at the scene.

Police have identified the victim as Husain Dahis, 26, of Ottawa. The shooting was targeted, they said.

“Orléans is usually a very safe place, so it’s very upsetting,” said Isabella Xiong, who was home when she heard what she described as the sound of multiple gunshots in quick succession.

“It felt like the sounds were very close. It felt like someone was drilling on the side of our wall,” she said. “Five to 10 seconds later, I heard a man screaming.”

She then joined other neighbours outside, some of whom had called 911.

Xiong expressed sympathy for the family of the shooting victim. “It’s very heartbreaking,” she said.

Police have not announced any arrests but said they don’t believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.
