Severe thunderstorm warnings, watches issued for eastern Ontario, western Quebec

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Kingston, Ont., while a large swath of eastern Ontario and western Quebec remain under a thunderstorm watch.

Environment Canada issued the watch at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday. The agency is tracking a system that could produce dangerous thunderstorms including strong winds, hail and torrential rain.

The areas affected include Ottawa, Cornwall, Gatineau and Maniwaki.

The storm is headed eastward Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, the weather agency said. Rainfall warnings could follow if the system lingers.

Environment Canada advises people to seek shelter whenever there’s threatening weather.

Tuesday’s warning and watches follow a severe thunderstorm warning issued on Monday. That storm brought heavy rain across the region Monday evening before being lifted.
