Police say one person has been detained after some residents of a subdivision in Richmond were advised to stay indoors earlier Tuesday morning.

The Ottawa Police Service first posted about the incident on X, formerly known as Twitter, at approximately 6:45 a.m., telling others to avoid Pacing Walk and Maynell Road in the southwestern part of the rural south Ottawa community.

The initial post did not detail what the nature of the police investigation was, nor did initial calls to the service for more details.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., police said a person had been detained, the police operation is concluding and residents would see a police presence in the area for the next few hours.

The scene is about 30 kilometres from downtown Ottawa.
