Teen cyclist dies after being hit by car near Long Sault, Ont.

A 14-year-old cyclist is dead after being hit by a car in an eastern Ontario area near Cornwall on Friday afternoon.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the teen girl was struck while riding eastbound on the westbound shoulder of County Road 2 west of Long Sault, which is just outside Cornwall.

Emergency responders arriving at the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. found off-duty firefighters and others attempting life-saving measures on the girl, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“[They] made every effort to revive her and keep her alive,” OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson told CBC News.

The driver of the car was not physically injured.

They stayed at the scene and are cooperating with police, Dickson said.

“This is a terrible tragedy for a family and a community to go through,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
