A transport truck crashed and caught fire on Highway 401 as it passed through Belleville, Ont., early Thursday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
OPP said in a post on X the single-vehicle crash happened around 4:30 a.m. between Highway 37 and Shannonville Road. The truck driver was not injured.
Earlier, OPP reported a vehicle on fire at the crash scene and posted photos suggesting the truck was heavily damaged by flames.
The highway was initially closed in both directions but westbound lanes reopened around 9:15 a.m.
All eastbound lanes of the 401 will be closed for most of the day between Highway 37 and Shannonville road, police said.
Motorists are advised to detour onto Highway 37, turn right after about 3.5 kilometres onto Blessington Road, then right again onto Shannonville Road and back to Highway 401.
