Up to 30 cm of heavy blowing snow forecast for southern Prince Edward County

Communities in Prince Edward County including Bloomfield, Picton and Wellington could be in for 20 to 30 centimetres of heavy blowing snow between Monday afternoon and Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.

Communities in Prince Edward County including Bloomfield, Picton and Wellington could be in for 20 to 30 centimetres of heavy blowing snow between Monday afternoon and Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.

The agency has issued a snow squall watch for southern parts of the county closer to Lake Ontario.

Snow squalls are moderate to heavy flurries driven by strong, gusty winds that can materialize with little warning and make it very hard to see.

Winds could gust up to 60 km/h, according to Environment Canada. It’s asking people in the area to consider postponing non-essential travel.

Picton’s expected high Monday is –9 C, with wind chill making it feel as cold as� –20 in the afternoon. The overnight low is –14 C with wind chill making it feel like –26. Tuesday’s forecast is similar.

Much of Canada is experiencing below-average temperatures including an extreme cold warning in some areas west of Ottawa.
