19-year-old man killed in Friday night shooting on Russell Road

A 19-year-old Ottawa man is dead after a shooting Friday night on Russell Road.

Homicide investigators say the shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Road, which is near the intersection of Smyth Road and St. Laurent Boulevard.

They identified the victim as Yousef Salaman of Ottawa.

No arrests have been made and police are hoping to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting or who may have surveillance video of the area.

Investigators worked in the rain Saturday morning collecting evidence from the scene, which was cordoned off with yellow police tape. Dozens of yellow evidence markers covered the area, which is an Ottawa Community Housing development that backs on to the Dempsey Community Centre, currently used as an emergency accommodation shelter.
