Ottawa paramedics say two adults were hospitalized for minor injuries following a basement fire in an apartment building in Centretown West early Sunday.
First responders attended the scene in the 300 block of Cambridge Street shortly before 4 a.m.
Firefighters said upon arrival, they saw flames shooting out of the basement window of the low-rise multi-unit building.
The fire was declared under control shortly after 4 a.m., and was contained before it could spread throughout the entire building.
Firefighters then searched the building, and didn’t find anyone inside apart from the two injured adults.
An OC Transpo bus provided shelter for the residents at the scene.
Victim services was also dispatched to provide any necessary assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
