Chelsea lifts request for reduced consumption of drinking water

Chelsea has lifted its request for residents served by the municipal water supply system to reduce drinking water consumption, the Outaouais municipality announced Friday.

The notice had been issued on Aug. 14 after heavy rainfall five days earlier, from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, necessitated maintenance work at the filtration plant. It had been expected to continue until Saturday, Aug. 31.

“This measure was necessary to ensure a stable and constant supply of drinking water while allowing the basins to be refilled,” Friday’s announcement said.

A “precautionary” boil-water advisory for residents was also issued following the Aug. 9 deluge. It was lifted less than a week later.

A state of emergency, also declared Aug. 9, was lifted on Aug. 22.
