The City of Ottawa has announced that it will follow a long-standing practice by raising the flag of Israel at city hall on May 14, but it will do so without a public ceremony this year.

A news release Tuesday said the flag would be raised in commemoration of Israel’s Independence Day, as has been Ottawa’s practice annually since 2007, just as Canada’s capital city celebrates national holidays and independence days, and holds flag-raising events and activities, in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada, for more than 190 federally recognized countries.
