A coroner’s inquest is underway into the 2016 death of Abdirahman Abdi.
Abdi, 38, died on July 25, 2016, one day after being arrested by Ottawa Police Service officers.
An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act, to examine the circumstances surrounding his death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
The inquest is expected to last 21 days and hear from approximately 25 witnesses.
