The Ottawa Police Service said on the social media site X that roads near Parliament were closed during the investigation.

“Road closures are in effect in and around the Parliamentary District,” the force said at about 1 p.m. “Side streets, including Wellington and Sparks Streets, as well as pedestrian walkways, may also be affected.”

By 2 p.m. the area surrounding Parliament Hill had reopened to cars and pedestrians. Sparks Street was bedecked in its holiday finery, but otherwise unremarkable.

Anti-vaccine protesters who have been a mainstay on Parliament Hill since the 2022 convoy protest were not at their regular spot on Wellington, but rather across the street.
