Driver charged over death of pedestrian in January collision in Sydenham

KINGSTON — A driver from South Frontenac has been charged by Ontario Provincial Police following a fatal collision in Sydenham in January.

Emergency services were called at about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, 2024, to Bedford Road, just north of Alton Road East, where a four-door sedan had struck a pedestrian. The victim had been walking on the shoulder of the road when the collision occurred.

“The pedestrian was fatally injured,” OPP said. “The driver stayed at the scene and assisted officers with the investigation.”

The OPP reported at the time that the driver was also taken to hospital for treatment.

The investigation resulted in the driver, Jordan Ward, 38, of South Frontenac Township being charged by the OPP with careless driving causing death.

Ward is scheduled to appear in court in Kingston on July 8.
