Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Ottawa area.
The agency’s afternoon forecast predicted thunderstorms would develop along a cold front that was to move through the province Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The alert, posted at 3:30 p.m., warned that the large hail can damage property and cause injury.
“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the special weather statement stated.
It also warned residents from water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water.
