At night, the minimum temperatures are only expected to drop to around 20 C.
“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category,” Saturday’s warning read. “Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health.”
Environment Canada advised people to drink lots of water, even if they don’t feel thirsty. The agency also suggested limiting sun exposure, wear hats and using umbrellas.
“Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle,” the warning said. “Ask a health professional, such as a pharmacist or physician, how medications or health conditions can affect your risk in the heat.”
The Sunday forecast calls for a morning temperature of 31 C (humidex of 39), with a UV index of 8, or “very high.” Environment Canada also forecasts a 40 per cent chance of showers overnight, including the risk of a thunderstorm, and a low temperature of 21 C.
Monday’s outlook includes a 40 per cent chance of showers throughout the day on Monday along with a high temperature of 31 C and a low of 20 C.
According to Environment Canada, a cooler airmass should make its way to the National Capital Region by Tuesday night.
