A farm equipment operator had to be extricated by Ottawa firefighters after a sprayer toppled and got wedged into a ditch in the Navan area.

Ottawa Fire Services said firefighters arrived at the scene in the 2000 block of Giroux Road just before 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports about the sprayer in the ditch with the operator trapped inside.

The front engine and operator compartment of the sprayer were crushed into the side of the ditch, and the operator’s legs were pinned by the dashboard.

A release from Ottawa Fire Services said specialized tools were used to make relief cuts in the area of the operator’s feet and they were safely extricated at 2:47 p.m. Firefighters then used a hose line to decontaminate the operator, who had become covered in fungicide.

A slow fuel leak from the 300-litre tank of the tractor was also controlled before 3:30 p.m.

Further details on the condition of the farm equipment operator were unavailable.
