Ottawa firefighters were called early Wednesday to a fire in the 100 block of Nelson Street in Lowertown.

Initial reports described visible flames from the second floor of the “multi-unit residential low-rise” structure.

Crews arriving at the scene between Clarence and York streets at about 3:30 a.m. confirmed a working fire, to call additional resources.

Firefighters completed two searches of the structure and no occupants were found inside.

The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m.

A fire inspector was sent to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
