Ottawa Fire Services took down a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Tauvette Street in the city’s Blackburn Hamlet area.
OFS were called at about 4:15 p.m. and found flames coming from the basement window when they arrived about four minutes later.
The homeowner met firefighters and confirmed there was no one in the home. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line inside the house.
Firefighters found that the heat and flames from the basement had compromised the integrity of the floor on the home’s main level, creating a hazard for firefighters operating inside the structure.
A piercing nozzle was put through the first floor and sprayed into the basement to extinguish the flames. Firefighters then made their way into the basement and extinguished what was left of the fire.
The blaze was declared under control shortly after 5 p.m.
A firefighter sustained a minor injury while on the scene.
An investigator has been assigned to determine the fire’s cause.
