Ottawa Fire Service quickly controlled a smoky highrise fire in the Cyrville neighbourhood Thursday morning.
Police and alarm companies alerted the fire service shortly after 8 a.m. of the fire in a highrise in the 1100 block of Cummings Avenue.
Firefighters answering the call could see smoke in the air, so a “working fire” call was issued to bring more personnel and equipment to the scene.

Firefighters confirmed smoke was visible at the rear of the structure and flames were visible at second-floor apartment window.
Responders headed to the second floor where firefighters began searching for any occupants.
Crews also assisted several residents to leave the building via the stairwells.
The fire was extinguished before it could spread and the site was declared under control by about 8:24 a.m.
Ventilation was performed with a number of high pressurized fans. However high levels of carbon monoxide were detected, so ventilation operations continued until the air quality was deemed safe.
Victim assistance has been requested for anyone displaced by the fire.
An Ottawa Fire investigator is also present.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
