Ottawa firefighters managed to control an early morning fire a Merivale Avenue mall strip Thursday, preventing the blaze from spreading to neighbouring businesses.
Just after 4 a.m. a passerby called 911 to report smoke coming from the roof of a commercial plaza in the 1400 block of Merivale Road, north of Baseline Road.
The caller also reported that flames could be seen through the windows of a former pizza restaurant in the mall.
