Ottawa firefighters rescued a personal watercraft rider Thursday afternoon after the craft got stuck in the fast-moving Deschênes Rapids.

The rider contacted Ottawa Fire Services at about 3:21 p.m. describing his plight and saying he was holding onto the craft.

Upon arrival, a ladder truck crew spotted the person and relayed the position to an OFS water rescue team. There were two teams in the water, one to make the rescue and one downstream for safety.

Two rescue swimmers were sent into the rapids and made contact with the individual who was wearing a flotation device.

Rescuers were able to dislodge the watercraft and floated it down the rapids with the operator back on board.

The individual was guided back to the Cassels boat launch and everyone was safely off the water at about 4:25 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.
