Firefighters take control of smoky fire in abandoned Catherine Street home

Ottawa firefighters took control of a smoky fire in an abandoned home on Catherine Street Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m., firefighters received a number of 911 calls reporting black smoke coming from the abandoned house near Bronson Avenue.

The fire was located on the upper floor of the three-storey building near Bronson Avenue.

Fire retardants were applied to knock the fire down.

The fire was declared under control at about 3:10 p.m.

An Ottawa Fire investigator was assigned to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

There were no reports of injury.
