Firefighters use thermal imaging to find missing cat

Firefighters from Station 36 on Cyrville Road spent more than 90 minutes using high-tech thermal imaging gear on Thursday to track down and rescue a family cat.

The pet had been missing for three days at a home in the 800 block of Thornecrest Street.

Firefighters were told the cat got into the ceiling but that the owners were uncertain of where it had gone to.

With a thermal imaging camera, rescue crews were able to determine that the cat fell down a shaft and was at the bottom of a wall near the front door, according to Ottawa Fire Services.

The cat was safely extricated, but “there will be some minor drywall repairs to be done,” OFS said.
