Ottawa firefighters battled a west-end blaze Monday evening that started in an attached garage, but then moved to the roof of the house.

Ottawa Fire Services took a 911 call at 5:38 p.m. about the fire on Ridingview Crescent, just off of Flewellyn Road. The caller reported heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the garage located at the front of the home. The blaze had spread to the house by the time crews arrived at the scene, which was located in part of the city that did not have hydrants. Firefighters used a shuttle system to move water to the location, and by 7:35 p.m. the fire had been declared under control.

Victim services and a fire services investigator were sent to the scene.

There were no reports of any injuries.
