Gatineau police closed the Boulevard des Allumettières in both directions Thursday. Traffic was shut down between Carillon and St-Rédempteur streets.
Police would not comment on the nature of the incident.
“The scene is active (and) we can’t say yet how long it will last,” said Gatineau police spokeswoman Const. Andrée East.
The constable added there was no danger to the public due to the operation.
Traffic was snarled in the area and city bus routes have been rerouted. In a post on the social media site X, Gatineau police said extra officers had been deployed to direct traffic around the area.
