Gatineau police are crediting information from the public for the arrest of a Val-des-Monts man in connection with a hit-and-run crash between a pickup truck and a moped in July that seriously injured a teenage girl.

The collision occurred on July 8 at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Boulevard de l’Hôpital and Boulevard Saint-René Ouest.

Several witnesses saw a northbound pickup truck strike a girl on a westbound moped and speed away.

Bystanders rushed to assist the girl, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

In a release Thursday, police said information received led to the arrest of a 43-year-old Val-des-Monts man on Oct. 23.

After interviews with investigators, the man was released pending a future trial. Charges of failure to stop at a collision and dangerous driving have already been filed with the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales, which directs criminal prosecutions in Quebec.

Police said the investigation is continuing and other charges are possible.

Anyone with new information in the case is asked to call 819-243-4636, option 5.
