Gatineau police seek truck involved in hit-and-run of moped rider

Gatineau police are seeking public assistance in locating a truck involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a young female moped driver in July.

Police said in a release that the collision occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of De l’Hôpital and Saint-René Ouest.

The victim, 16, was heading west on Boulevard Saint-René when she was struck by a pickup headed north on Boulevard de l’Hôpital.

The truck driver fled the scene quickly.

The moped rider, 16, was injured in the crash. A medical examination indicated the injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said a number of citizens went to the assistance of the girl.

“Their actions made a difference,” police said.

Police described the vehicle as a grey Ford Series F Super Duty (model 250 or 350) with four doors and a logo on one door indicating that the truck had a diesel engine.

At the time of the crash, there was a long ladder in the truck’s rear box.
