Two occupants at a homeless encampment in Gatineau have been arrested while a number of people are in custody as the city moved to break up the controversial camp outside the Robert Guertin Centre.
The operation began before 7 a.m. when police staged a large deployment to serve five warrants in connection with alleged drug trafficking inside inside the 13 trailers on the site.

Following an order from the City of Gatineau, a formal notice was delivered to the residents saying trailer occupants who refuse to leave trailers “illegally” on city property would be arrested.
Police said the warning was delivered three times.
When occupants did not leave on their own, police began to seize the trailers eight trailers on the site.
Two people were arrested and face a number of charges, including assault on a police officer.
A third person was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Police said the nearby Ecole secondaire de l’Île high school remained open.
