A central Ottawa high school was placed under lockdown Tuesday when two people “hid” inside the school, the school district says.
Joe Koraith, media representative for the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, said Glebe Collegiate Institute was put under lockdown during lunch hour on Tuesday when two people were “pursued by a community member and entered the school to hide.

“Due to the uncertainty of the situation, we activated the lockdown safety procedure and contacted the Ottawa Police,” Koraith said via email. “No students or staff were harmed during this situation.”
He said the lockdown remained in place for approximately an hour while the police conducted a search of the building and determined that there was no danger to students and staff.
“All the students subsequently returned to their classrooms and normal school operations resumed,” he said.
Ottawa police said earlier in the day that there was a “police operation” in the 200 block of Glebe Avenue, and, along with the lockdown, “all other affected residents have been notified,” OPS said on the social media site X. “There are no reported injuries at this time.”
The OPS Central Criminal Investigations Section will investigate, police said.
