Environment Canada has issued a ‘severe thunderstorm watch’ for Ottawa, Gatineau and areas in eastern Ontario.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail,” the agency says.

The wind gusts could reach 90 km/h, while “nickel sized hail” is also possible.

Heavy rain is also possible.

The agency said the storm front could reach this area “this afternoon into this evening.”

“Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
