Police say two motorcycles were seen traveling at high speeds before a collision late Friday led to the death of two drivers.

The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Highway 416 south, at the Highway 417 split.

“Both motorcycles were seen travelling at high rates of speed prior to the collision,” provincial police said in a statement Saturday.

One rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics transported the second driver to the Ottawa Civic Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

Both highways were shut down for several hours while OPP technical experts conducted their investigation into the collision.

The Highways have been re-opened and the investigation is ongoing.
