LCBO workers launch strike, board begins shutting down stores

Liquor Control Board stores will be closed beginning Friday, after unionized workers went on strike.It is the first strike in LCBO history.“LCBO’s retail locations are now closed for 14 days, the agency said in a news release Friday.

Online ordering, with free home delivery, remains available.

“LCBO is disappointed that the leadership of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) has decided to initiate the first strike in our long history,” says the online statement.

The statement says the employer will continue to seek an agreement.

There was no mention of further negotiations.

If the strike lasts more than 14 days, LCBO says it will begin opening “certain stores.”

If the strike is to last more than the 14 days, they will begin reopening certain stores.

“32 LCBO stores will begin to reopen for in-store shopping and operate three days a week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) with limited hours in effect.”
