It was an expensive trip for a London, Ont. person who borrowed their grandfather’s car to drive to Ottawa to visit their girlfriend.

The driver was in such a rush they were stopped by provincial police Thursday night for “stunt-driving” doing 161 km/h on Highway 417. The speed limit on Hwy. 417 in Ottawa is 100 km/h.

Stunt-driving means a 30-day roadside driving suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound for the grandfather’s car.

Upon conviction, there’s a minimum $2,000 fine, six demerit points and a one-year driving prohibition.

Meanwhile, OPP was also back conducting RIDE checks in the Canadian Tire Centre area Thursday night.

One fan on the way home was stopped and asked to do a breathalyzer test.

He received a warning range suspension, for a blood alcohol reading between 0.05 and 0.79. Alert range warnings carry a variety of possible penalties.
