Service restarted across the O Train Confederation Line on Tuesday morning after a technical issue with the trains’ onboard cameras halted the LRT, the agency said in a post on the social network X. About 90 minutes after it announced the system had shut down, OC Transpo said service had been restored at just after 8 a.m.

“Due to a technical issue with cameras of the trains train service is temporarily suspended,” OC Transpo posted before service restarted. Replacement R1 bus service ran in place of the trains from Tunney’s Pasture to Blair stations.

In a memo to city council, transit general manager Renée Amilcar said Rideau Transit Maintenance, which operates the train line, was investigating the cause of caused the camera outages.

“These camera systems are a safety requirement ensuring the safety of customers in stations and the safe operation of trains,” Amilcar wrote.

The technical shutdown came just as the federal government’s return-to-office order took effect for many public servants.

“OC Transpo recognizes this is challenging for our customers during the morning commute, and sincerely appreciates their patience as we worked to restore full service,” Amilcar’s memo said.
