A man previously accused of assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Orléans now faces charges for a total of five similar incidents, with Ottawa police investigators believing there still may be additional incidents and further victims.

The Ottawa Police Service said Wednesday that Juste Jimbere, 19, of Ottawa, was facing three counts of assault, four counts of forcible confinement and three counts of sexual assault. All of the charges are linked to incidents that allegedly occurred in Orléans between April and September.

Last week, police said a 14-year-old victim had been walking in the area of Princess Louise Drive and Thurlow Street at about 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 when a suspect grabbed her from behind, put his hands around her waist, covered her mouth and pulled her back towards him.

The victim was able to escape and was not physically injured. The suspect then took off on foot.

Jimbere was also charged in connection with a similar attack that occurred in April, police said.

In the initial news release, Otatwa police reminded parents to frequently review safety tips for children, including:

  • Ensure a family member or caregiver knows your route and arrival time.
  • Do not talk to strangers.
  • Do not accept rides from strangers.
  • If an unknown adult is seeking your attention, do not approach them or their vehicle.
  • If being followed, go to a public place, a known residence or shout for help.
