Man dies while swimming in Lake Clear

A 27-year-old man was found dead after failing to surface while swimming in Lake Clear in Bonnechere Valley Township on Sunday morning.

The man had been swimming and jumping off rocks into the water with several other people when he disappeared beneath the surface, the OPP said in a news release Monday.

The OPP and Renfrew County paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after a 911 call was placed at about 9:30 a.m., with boats brought in to help in the search. the Bonnechere Valley Fire Department its drone to search the waters from the air.

The man’s body was found by the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit just before 7 p.m.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death, police said.

Lake Clear is located about 150 km west of Ottawa.
