A man in his 30s was transported to the hospital in stable condition following a collision Saturday involving a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle, paramedics say.
Curtis Partridge, a spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service, said the service’s first unit was on scene at Bank Street and Johnston Road just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The crash was in the city’s south end, near Greenboro station.

“We had two paramedic units, one of our primary response units and a superintendent, attend the scene of the collision,” said Partridge. “We assessed four patients and transported one to hospital in stable condition.”
Partridge said paramedics were on scene for just under 45 minutes, and said the individuals assessed were from two separate vehicles. But he could not specify whether the severely injured patient was a police officer for privacy reasons.
The Ottawa Police Operations’ duty inspector said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday evening that road closures were going into effect for “a serious collision.” Photos of the incident posted on social media show that the police cruiser appeared badly damaged.
“Please avoid the area and expect significant delays along Bank St. near Johnston Rd.,” said the post, published at 5:23 p.m.
The duty inspector later posted at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday that roads had been reopened.
A second multi-vehicle collision took place at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitch Owens Road and Limebank Road. Involving three vehicles, the crash took place at around 7:30 p.m. From one vehicle, two male patients were transported to the hospital, one in more serious condition and the other in stable condition. From another vehicle, a woman was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
All patients were in their 20s.
