Mixed weather forecast for Monday’s solar eclipse show


On eclipse day, Monday, skies are expected to be a mix of sun and clouds.

Snow returned to Ottawa on Thursday, but the good news was a promising forecast for next week with double-digit high temperatures for the city and the Ottawa Valley.

It’s still too early to know for sure if a specific community or location will have a clear sky for the best view of the solar eclipse on Monday afternoon, but it is not too early to see how the forecast is shaping up.

For Friday, the forecast includes precipitation in the form of rain showers or flurries across Eastern Ontario, but temperatures should warm up over the weekend.

On eclipse day, Monday, skies are expected to be a mix of sun and clouds. Ottawa and Renfrew are forecasted to have highs of 15 C, Cornwall a high of 14 C, and Belleville and Kingston highs of 12 C.

Unfortunately for several Ontario cities in the path of total eclipse, Monday’s forecast looks cloudy. Burlington is expected to have a high of 8 C, Fort Erie, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls will have highs of 9 C, and Hamilton will have a high of 13 C.

Ottawa

Thursday: Overnight periods of snow up to four centimetres and a low temperature of 5 C.

Friday: Flurries or rain showers changing to rain near noon with a high of 5 C. Cloudy overnight with a 40 per cent chance of precipitation and a low of -1 C.

Saturday: Mix of sun and cloud and a high of 8 C, followed by a low of -2 C overnight.

Sunday: Sunny skies with a high of 13 C during the day. Clear skies and a low of minus 1 overnight.

Renfrew

Thursday: Another two centimetres of snow was expected to fall overnight with a temperature steady around 0 C.

Friday: More precipitation changing to rain showers near noon and expected to continue overnight. Daytime high of 4 C and overnight low of 2 C.

Saturday: Cloudy with a high of 7 C during the day. Clear skies overnight, dropping to minus 3 C.

Sunday: Sunny with a high of 14 C, followed by clear skies overnight and a low of -2 C.

Kingston

Thursday: Overnight temperatures steady near 1 C with a 40-per-cent chance of flurries.

Friday: Cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of flurries or rain showers, changing to rain showers late in the morning. Temperature steady at 4 C. Overnight low of 3 C with a 30-per-cent chance of rain showers or flurries.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds with a high of 10 C, dropping to -1 C overnight.

Sunday: Sunny with a high of 12 C. Clear skies overnight with a low of -1 C.

Belleville

Thursday: Cloudy overnight with a 40-per-cent chance of flurries and a low of 0 C.

Friday: Cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of flurries or rain showers, changing to rain in the morning, with a high of 6 C. Cloudy overnight with a 30-per-cent chance of precipitation and a low of 3 C.

Saturday: Mix of sun and clouds and a high of 10 C, dropping to an overnight low of -1 C.

Sunday: Sunny with a high of 12 C. Clear skies overnight and a low of -1.

Cornwall

Thursday: Overnight periods of snow up to four centimetres with a temperature steady near 1 C.

Friday: High of 5 C with flurries or rain showers changing to rain around noon. Overnight low of 1 C with a 40-per-cent chance of rain showers or flurries.

Saturday: Cloudy and 8 C before dropping to -3 C overnight.

Sunday: Sunny and a daytime high of 10 C. Clear night skies and a low of -2 C.
