A 20-year-old Montreal man is facing a handful of criminal charges after Ottawa police made an arrest in connection with an automobile theft in progress early Thursday.
The charges against the man include theft of a motor vehicle, possession of break-in instruments, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, failure to comply with a release order and operating a motor vehicle on a highway without insurance.

The man is facing similar auto-theft charges from Laval, Que., the Ottawa Police Service said in a news release on Friday. He appeared in court on Thursday.
The news release said Ottawa patrol officers had been called to the area of Booth and Spruce streets in the Centretown West neighbourhood at about 4 a.m. on Thursday for a vehicle theft in progress. A traffic stop was conducted on Albert Street and the driver of that vehicle was found to be in possession of tools used to complete the theft.
