A motorcycle rider was seriously injured after a collision with another vehicle on Highway 417 in Ottawa’s west end early Saturday.

In posts on X, formerly Twitter, the Ontario Provincial Police said the collision on the westbound lanes occurred just past midnight after the motorcycle and a third vehicle had been observed racing.

“Charges are pending,” the OPP posted. “Of note: this is the same motorcycle and rider we posted about, one day earlier, who was stopped for driving on the shoulder and having no licence plate.”

On Thursday, the OPP posted that the rider had been charged after the motorcycle was driven along the shoulder of Highway 417 during rush hour.

The collision early Saturday closed westbound lanes of the highway starting at the intersection with Pinecrest/Greenbank roads, but another post about an hour later reported that the lanes had been reopened.
