Tobi Nussbaum has been reappointed to serve as CEO of the National Capital Commission for another four years.
On Jan. 24, Governor General Mary Simon, on the recommendation of the Liberal government, announced she was giving Nussbaum another term in his role at the NCC.
The former Ottawa city councillor became CEO of the NCC in early 2019 a few months after he was re-elected to represent Rideau-Rockcliffe ward.

Under Nussbaum’s leadership, the NCC has expanded its active transportation programs, extending times when certain roadways are closed for cyclists and pedestrians, and opening food and drink vendors along multi-use pathways. In recent years, the crown corporation also revitalized the NCC River House, a large historic boat house on the Ottawa River, transforming it into a swimming destination.
Development has started on more NCC-owned sections of Lebreton Flats with a new central library set to open in 2026 on Albert Street. As part of the NCC’s wider plans for the area, it has re-entered talks with the new ownership of the Ottawa Senators to build a new arena on Lebreton Flats.
In September, the two parties reached an “agreement in principle,” which could see the Senators buy a 10-acre parcel in the area. The NCC is hoping a deal for the new arena will be finalized by the end of 2025.
Nussbaum’s reappointment comes into effect on Feb. 4.
