Neighbour helps two elderly residents flee Manotick fire

Two elderly Manotick residents have been displaced after a neighbour helped them flee a garage fire at their McLean Crescent home Wednesday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services received several 911 calls at 11:12 a.m. reporting a fire in a single-family home in the 5000 block of McLean Crescent.

Firefighters arriving at the scene confirmed the attached garage of the bungalow was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line towards the garage.

The two elderly occupants of the home were able to safely exit the home with the help of a neighbour. There was no immediate word on how long they might be displaced.

The fire was contained to the garage and declared under control at 11:58 a.m. Two searches were done of the home and no other occupants were found.

The heavy amount of residual smoke that made its way into the home was ventilated out using high-pressure fans.

An OFS investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
