New apartment fire under investigation at Donald Street highrise, no injuries

Ottawa firefighters responded overnight Friday to another fire in the Donald Street apartment highrise where three residents were hospitalized in critical condition Thursday morning.

In a news release, Ottawa fire services said the latest fire at 1244 Donald St. was in the bedroom of a unit on building’s sixth floor.

Thursday’s blaze was on the third floor. That fire left two children and a woman in critical condition. It has been deemed suspicious and is under investigation by police arson detectives.

In a release on X, formerly Twitter, Ottawa Fire Services there were several calls reporting flames Friday night.

Crews quickly began operations and the fire was declared under control at 11:46 p.m.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army were on hand to assist fire victims.

There were no injuries immediately reported and it’s not clear whether anyone will be displaced by the latest fire.

The cause of Friday’s fire is under investigation.
