A 14-year-old male from Bridgewater, N.S., is facing a host of charges over multiple threats of violence against a Kemptville high school, the Ontario Provincial Police announced Friday.

The telephone threats to commit violent acts at St. Michael Catholic High School began Sept. 12 and continued until Oct. 17, a news release said.

The charges against the teen included: uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; indecent communications; mischief; public mischief; and unauthorized use of a computer.

He remained in custody Friday following a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear by video before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Tuesday. His identity is protected under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The news release said investigation by members of the crime unit of the OPP’s Grenville detachment, assisted by the OPP Cyber Investigations Team, OPP Regional Support Team, RCMP and Bridgewater Police led to the search of a home and a school in Bridgewater on Friday. One person was arrested and investigators seized electronic devices.

“While charges have been laid, the investigation is continuing, in conjunction with police in multiple jurisdictions, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigations in the United States,” the release said, adding that the OPP was continuing to look into potential connections to any similar incidents, including a threat against Seaway District High School in Iroquois.

The threats led area boards to order closure of several schools, including multiple days at St. Michael Catholic High School.
