One arrested in early morning ByWard Market stabbing

A 29-year-old man is facing charges, and self-inflicted wounds, after an early morning stabbing Sunday in the ByWard Market.

Ottawa police said officers were called to the 100 block of Clarence Street in response to a possible stabbing shortly before 3 a.m.

A 27-year-old victim was located with non-life-threatening injuries and a 29-year-old man was arrested on scene.

The 29-year-old is facing charges of assault cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, and breaching probation. He was expected to appear in court Sunday.

Police say the 29-year-old had an “accidental self-inflicted injury” and also received medical attention.

A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedics Service said both suffered stab wound injuries, and both were transported to hospital in serious condition.
