One dead, five others injured in crash near Sharbot Lake

One person was killed and five others had varying degrees of injuries following a single-vehicle crash north of Sharbot Lake on Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police said.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Perth, Ottawa and Kingston, the post added.

OPP Const. Robert Martell said emergency services were called to the 1300 block of Burke Settlement Road at 12:05 p.m. for a single-vehicle roll-over crash.

Martell said the vehicle occupied by the six was described as a passenger car.

Frontenac Paramedics, Central Frontenac Fire and Rescue and Ornge Air Ambulance were all called to the scene. Martell said an air ambulance was used to rush one of the six to hospital.

Martell said the road would remain closed for a significant amount of time as police investigated the crash.

No other information about the victims was available, as next of kin were still being notified.

Burke Settlement Road is a gravel road with a 60 km/h speed limit. The road is approximately 3.6 kilometres north of Highway 7, off County Road 509. The 1300 block of Burke Settlement Road starts roughly 1.5 kilometres north of County Road 509, right before a number of curves in the roadway.

Sharbot Lake is about 120 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
