One dead, three injured after head-on collision on Hwy. 417 near Kinburn Side Road; highway to reopen soon

One adult has died and three people are in hospital with serious injuries following a head-on collision this morning on Hwy. 417 near Kinburn Side Road.

The age and gender of the deceased person have not been released, pending notification of next of kin, said Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps.

The other victims include an adult female in critical condition, and an adult female and infant girl in serious condition, he said. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Ontario Provincial Police closed a portion of Hwy. 417 to traffic in both directions in the rural west of Ottawa. Eastbound lanes were reopened by mid-afternoon, and westbound lanes were expected to to reopen by 5 p.m., said OPP Ottawa Detachment spokesperson Michael Fathi.

The first call to emergency services came at approximately 9:30 a.m., said Nick Defazio of the Ottawa Fire Service.

According to the OPP, the two vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane after one crossed the centre median.

While the highway was closed, the OPP asked drivers to avoid the area and take an alternate route.
