A man was stabbed to death Monday night in Vanier, according to the Ottawa Police Service.

Police were called to Ste. Monique Street near Ste-Cécile Street before 8 p.m. Monday for reports of a stabbing, the force said on the social media site X.

Neighbour Maelys McArdle said she saw at least two ambulances, four police cars and a fire truck pull up to 230 Ste-Monique St. at about 7:45 p.m. on Monday night.

Several minutes later, a person was taken out on a stretcher, she said, and another person was arrested.

She said she didn’t know her neighbours.

Police were seen heading in and out of the building Tuesday morning as elementary school children passed by on their way to school. The homicide unit is investigating.
