The Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday that investigators from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment were continuing to investigate a collision in North Algona Wilberforce Township last week that claimed the life of a motorcyclist from Renfrew.

On Sept. 26, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to a scene on Highway 41 after a two-vehicle collision involving the motorcycle and a farm tractor. Preliminary investigation indicated the motorcycle was northbound on Highway 41 when it collided with a tractor that had entered the intersection from Walsh Road, a police news release said.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 76-year-old male, was transported to hospital by ambulance, but died there. The driver of the tractor, a 63-year-old man, was not injured.

Highway 41 was closed between Mountain Road and Hewitts Corner Road for several hours due to the collision.

North Algona Wilberforce Township is northwest of Renfrew and about 150 kilometres from Ottawa.

OPP officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment were also investigating a separate collision involving a sport utility vehicle and two motorcycles in Pembroke on Monday.

A 37-year-old man driving the motorcycle was seriously injured and was subsequently airlifted to a regional trauma centre. A 37-year-old woman riding on that motorcycle was also taken to hospital with serious injuries. The 32-year-old male driving the other motorcycle was not injured. The 78-year-old male driver of the SUV was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

An OPP news release said preliminary investigation indicated the westbound SUV crossed the centre line and struck two eastbound motorcycles before also string a residence on Mary Street at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
